Publication
Timeline
The p ublication
of poems or stories in
anthologies is a lengthy and quite
complex procedure.
Here at Forward
Press we pride ourselves on
producing quality products in the
shortest time possible. From the time
that the editor decides the content of
a book, to the time the end product is
complete is scheduled at 12 weeks.
The schedule is
strictly adhered to and we endeavour
to meet all projected publication
dates.

Editing
The first part
of the scheduled procedure is the
editing process. During this process
the editor reads and carefully selects
the content to be published in the
book. Once the content has been
selected the editor passes the
information and all relevant files to
the Data Services department.

Data Entry
The Data
Services department is
responsible for making sure that all
poems/stories are linked with the
correct author and book to be
published. This is quite a lengthy
procedure as all authors have to be
checked against the database to avoid
client record duplication.

Typesetting
The next stage
is for the poem or story to be
typeset. We have house styles that our
typesetters follow to give uniformity
to our books. The data-services
procedure takes on average two weeks
to complete for each book.

Acceptance
Procedure
The next step
is for all the typesets and authors'
original paperwork to be returned to
the editor for the acceptance
procedure.
The
acceptance
procedure is when the letter of
acceptance, the author's copyright
permission form and the typeset are
mailed to the author for checking and
signing. Forward Press will not
publish any work without having the signed
copyright returned by the author.
To allow for
postal services and of course
weekends, four weeks are allowed for
delivery and the return to us of the
relevant paperwork.

Copyright
Returns
Data Services
input all the copyright forms and orders
returned against the
author’s client record on our database.
This is done on a daily basis and
accuracy is of the utmost
importance, to avoid incorrect orders.

1st
Corrections
All the
processed forms along with the
attached typesets are then sent back
to the editors to mark any
corrections that they would like to be
made. This
process takes up to one week.
Then all
paperwork goes back to Data Services for the
typesets to be corrected as per author
and editors’ instructions. Another
week is allowed for this process.

Final
Corrections
Final checks
are then made by the editors to ensure
that all corrections have been made. The book
then goes back to data services for
any final corrections to be made at
which point larger books may be
scrolled*. The insides of the book are
now ready for printing.
*The scrolling
of large books helps keep the
thickness of the book down for spine
binding purposes.

Cover Design
Whilst the
Data Services team and the editors
have been busy working on the insides
of the book,
our graphic design department have been working on the book cover
design. This process takes
approximately two weeks and involves
creative and informative input from
all departments.
The
information on all covers is checked
on proof copies by the editors and the
despatch department to ensure it is
correct prior to production.

Pre-Press
When the
insides and cover are approved,
only then can printing begin.
Print request
information is gathered from our
database, editors and PR Department
for a final print run figure to be
reached.
We already
know from returned copyright/order
forms how many copies of the book our
contributors require and how many
legal copies are needed. We then
calculate the final figure and the
schedule for production is compiled.

Production
The
book covers
and inside
pages have to
be printed.
When the
various parts of the book are printed and
checked, final assembly can begin.

Despatch
Once all the
books are made, orders can be
processed and despatched.
