Lucky Day?
(A poem about Max - our lovely rescued cat)
Here they come - the humans.
I’d better look my best.
Straighten out my whiskers,
Fluff my pure white chest.
I’ll get my throat vibrating -
All humans love a purr.
And rubbing past the window,
Will show my gorgeous fur.
Yet on they go, regardless.
I didn’t even dribble!
But when you’re nearly nine,
Well, humans start to quibble.
They think about the vet bills.
They think about you ageing.
They think the kittens down the hall,
Are rather more engaging.
That tabby in pen twenty,
Was homed in two weeks flat.
Don’t they know that markings,
Maketh not the cat?
OK, my ears are ragged.
My tail’s a little thin.
Yet, none of that would matter,
If they would take me in.
Six months I’ve been here waiting.
It’s getting pretty boring.
I should be out there climbing trees,
Or sat on a lap, snoring.
But wait, here come some others.
They’re walking right this way!
I’d better purr my heart out.
Is this my lucky day?
