Count Our Blessings

Winner of A Count of Blessings

Congratulations Dino, your heart-warming and insightful poem has been selected as the best in the collection and wins you a luxury gift hamper.

Count Your Blessings

Count your blessings, come what may
Give thanks and pray for each new day
Birdsong heard at dawn’s first light
A free concert that brings such delight
Babies’ laughter, filled with glee
At all the little things they see
Good manners that don’t cost a penny
Rewarded with a smile from many
Give thanks for family and friends
Always there, right to the end.

Count your blessings in every way
They’re all around you every day
A favourite song to cheer you up
Hot chocolate supped slow from a cup
Lost in a good book on a rainy day
As imagination takes you miles away
A best friend to confide in whenever, wherever
A partner to cherish and love forever
Children to teach, protect and nurture
It’s good to feel loved and look to the future.

Count your blessings - know your luck
In case you ever become unstuck . . .
Just being able to move around
Having touch and taste, and sight and sound
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side
Don’t look to others to be your guide
Set your standards for yourself
Don’t try to copy someone else
Believe in You - and you will achieve
The fabric of your life you weave.

Count your blessings, no matter how small
Pick yourself up when you fall
Good health and happiness go hand in hand
And love cures all - it’s in great demand
But time is unstoppable, consuming our life
So make the memories good ones because blessings are rife
Open your eyes - you’ll be amazed what you see
Most of these blessings are priceless and free

They’re all around you in everyday things
Don’t just take them for granted - enjoy what they bring.
Blessings needn’t be material and cost you dear
It’s the little things that matter and bring most cheer
Inconsequential they may seem to be
But without them life’s a fallacy.
