Fallen
Angel
When I first
said you were an angel you told me
you used to be, but you fell;
Said this was
the last stop you’d be making on
your way down into hell.
What you don’t
seem to realise is that the
direction that you’re taking
Is determined
not by fate, but by the choices that
you’re making.
I tried to show
you that your beauty lies within
But you said
your future’s written and it
simply spells out ‘sinned.’
You showed me
the demons that walk by your side;
Tried to make me
understand why you feel the need to
hide
Your personality
in a bottle.
Told me you’re
only happy when you’ve had a bit
to drink,
Can’t deal
with the thoughts you have when your
head’s clear enough to think.
At first I
thought I was different, that maybe
I could be the one to save you
And I think for
a while maybe you thought I could
too;
But the only
person who can save you from you…
Is you.
When I first
said you were an angel you told me
you used to be, but you fell
Said this was
the last stop you’d be making on
your way down into hell
But if anyone
looks close enough they’d be able
to see that you lied…
You never fell;
You just forgot
how to fly.

Some Things in
Life Are Precious
I
met her up in Putney
At a party near the river
As my eyes met hers
Across the room
My heart went all a quiver
Her gorgeous face
So filled with grace
Took my breath away
As the other guests departed
She asked me if I'd stay
I looked at her in wonder
A beauty so effete
All of her was radiance personified
Even things petite
We sat down on the sofa
She quoted poignant prose
I was captivated
By a dimple on her nose
We listened to Suzanne by Leonard
Cohen
That almost made her cry
We sat on her veranda
As stars filled up the sky
We looked across the moonlit river
At the Fulham ground close by
She said 'I spend most weekends
there'
I just said 'goodbye'
Some things in life are precious
Precious that is to you
She'd have always been be a cottager
I'd always be a blue!!!

You
Gave Him Wings Now Let Him Fly
I'm an adult now, I'm fully grown
and I'm starting to blossom from the seeds you have sown.
You gave me a mind of my own
encouraged my dreams
and helped me unravel my wildest schemes.
When crisis came you were always there
It's you I turned to,
who knew how to care.
You've goaded, cajoled,
encouraged, consoled
left things unsaid just to steer my way.
You've patched and you've mended,
agreed and pretended
and hoped in your heart
I would stay
the man of your dreams in the clothes,
of the child that you washed and ironed till dawn
or the man of your dreams
in the ways of a child
that was left, sometimes
bruised and forlorn.
Or the man of your dreams in the heart of a child
who gave endless joy
with no shred of malice nor scorn.
But I am an adult now,
ready for the world,
with my wings all waxed and unfurled.
The sun's on my back,
our dreams are intact,
my hopes and expectations soar high.
I'd carry your love, your care and your life,
set me free I'm ready to fly.

In
this Deep and Silent Forest
On a single blade of grass
Before the break of silver morn
Stretching from the living ground
Flanked by trees that stretch and yawn
In this deep and silent forest
A drop of lonely blood is found.
A century untrampled gone
A place deprived of human breath
On many paths this tale has led
Yet always finds untimely death
In this deep and silent forest
The husky wind can whisper yet.
If it blows and there you stand
Open out your heart and heed
The tale of sorrow as first told
From eyes that cry and lips that bleed
In this deep and silent forest
Lie the secrets of the old.
With a message spirits came
Twenty days since he had left
Flit-flying round their marriage bed
Spoke the news of battle death
In this deep and silent forest
Her tears of grief were spread.
As I stand and look around me
Where she thrust the knife and fell
No stream or bleeding river flows
No echo of her dying yell
Yet in this deep and silent forest
That single blade of grass still grows.

Brother
Tell
me how to get to where you are,
is there a bridge that I can cross,
or a river I can swim
Can I only glimpse you in a
shadowland of dreamlike, spirit
sleep.
Will I turn to find you close behind
and will we laugh again, touch warm
skin on skin.
Breathe on me so I know your life is
real and let me hear the beat of
your heart close by.
Stare from your dark eyes into mine
and hold my gaze whilst I wonder on
the miracle of seeing you alive
before me.
Don't make me chase you through
endless, strange landscapes.
Don't let me reach and find your
face become another's.
Let me beg of God to return, or even
loan you for a precious while.
We can say all we didn't say and be
all we would be to each other.
Brother, we are separated by a
whisper, a breeze, a veil between
worlds.
I wish I could get to where you are
and bring you home.
