The Top 5 Poems of the Month

October 2007

Alison Wade is now a Featured Poet!
Read her biography and more of her poems

Let there be Peace

Everyday around the world, its so hard to survive
Little children suffering, no hope to stay alive
No home and no family, no cosy bed at night
No hugs or no kisses, no Mum to hold the tight

Lets make this world a better place, for us all to enjoy
Giving hope and sharing love, with every girl and boy
When I sit and realise, that I am truly blessed
I can’t help but shed a tear in thanks and happiness

So let there be peace eternally
Let’s fill the world with love and harmony
This is the time for unity
So let there be peace for you and for me

Here are the other four winning poems for this month.

High Tech 2007

Today we’re very Hi-Tech and everything’s on line,
Everyone sends emails for it saves a lot of time.
Computers are a way of life – it’s not about the cost;
There’s so much info on the web – without one you’ll be lost.

The world’s so complicated – just don’t forget your PIN.
The Lottery’s taken over – a £1 a go to win.
Cash is "out" and cheques are too – for paper’s not in fashion.
And booking on the internet is this generation’s passion.

If looking for employment, you must be up to speed
With the latest programmes, data, software that they need.
And people now have ipods or get an MP3
Or buy huge plasma screens, but it’s just a large TV.

The news is full of doom and gloom, plus violence, sickness, crime.
Jesus is our only hope; accept Him while there’s time.
The world is out of our control; and heaven a breath away -
But after death, no turning back – so call on God today.

For this life on earth is temporary, and nothing here will last.
So take the hand of Jesus now, and He’ll forget your past.
He’ll accept you with His loving arms, there’ll be no code or key
For Jesus died for everyone – and He’ll welcome you and me.

For my eternal home’s not here; instead I’m heaven bound -
No fear of death in this life, for with Jesus I’ll be found.
And I know my Heavenly Father will not ask me for my PIN -
Or ask me for my password, for He saved me from my sin.

No "option one, two, three or four" and no "access denied"
For the Lord loves each one dearly, and for everyone He died.
You won’t be asked for details, for your ID or your name,
For Jesus knows them anyway and He loves you just the same.

Don’t rely on earthly things, for they’ll all pass away;
But put your trust in Jesus, who will come again one day.
For He’ll judge the living and the dead; and every knee will bow -
Don’t delay in accepting Jesus as your Saviour – act right now!

Slave

Slave
Do you think you are more free than they were?
You’re still a slave, more so even.
They had no choice, no rights
You have everything, the right to choose
And how do you repay the sacrifice,
You choose to be a slave
Who is your master?
They knew theirs by name, by whip, by chord
By the anger and the rage,
They knew by the pain, the suffering and separation
Do you know yours?
I know him.
I have seen him bedazzle you, I have watched him take
Everything from you
I have watched you lie down like a dog waiting for scraps,
Heel, come here boy, and you prance after him,
Tongue panting
You dance to his songs, chant his words,
Stand mesmerized on every utterance
You are a personal testimony to his power
You are lost, you will never be free
He has drawn you in with promises and half truths
Now you work only for him,
Your eyes have not been burned out,
Yet you can not see the world around you.
They lived in squalor and depravity
Lucky to eat, barely dressed
You stand in your designer clothes
Clothes that will be “too old” next season
Eating at the latest trendy spot
You are snared by desire
And debt has you chained in an icy grip
You were free but you wanted to be something else
To walk, talk, smell, dress, to be like those others
Those who live the good life
They were enslaved,
You volunteered
They lived for a parchment, to have nothing but freedom
You gave up your freedom in pursuit of everything
You found nothing!
Slave

The Pedalo

Sad, sad pedalo
No one to take you
Out and around the beautiful bay
I know that feeling
I know that emotion
I have no friends
to hang out with today

Together we’ll explore
the coastline, the ocean,
the alcoves, the caves
Just shooting the breeze
and I’ll tell you my secrets,
my fancies, my story
of the Marmara walk
and the absence of trees

And I’ll feel the vibes
of the previous riders
through your plastic sides
with my toes in the sea

Together we’ll doze
in the afternoon sunshine
My skin reddening,
yours holding me
and I’ll take you back
to the Hotel Port Loutro
to recover our strength
at the end of the day

Tomorrow I’ll pass you,
smile very slightly,
as I turn my back
and wander away

My Beloved Friend

Come alive my friend
and live your life.
Open your eyes
and take my hand
my beloved friend.
Come into the light
and dance upon the sea
no tears will fall
beneath your feet.
Arise my love
my fair one
my beloved friend
