The Top 5 Poems of the Month

May 2009

Birthlines

It is in my mind to be
Rested, in this dark urgency...

Gnarled god of infinite beauty,
With ancient tongue, the hills awake
To nature's call and the season's duty;
To the magic and menace that you make!

And in these things we love the most,
Great beasts of boughs are lost to us.
They wear the darkness like some ghost
That rattles around the rooms of a house.

With their bulged limbs of lump and grot
Deep-twisted through the roll of land;
Green-skirted in your rooted rot:
Horror and history, grooved and grand!

Gorged on darkness, this heart finds
A terrific sadness, deep, that clings...
Death strikes where the river winds
Through a changed landscape that sings

Of experience and gnosis, of hedgerows lost;
Of pathways and barrows and Saxon slain...
To wake the sleeping sylvan ghost
And thunder over mound and hill again!

Here are the other four winning poems for this month.

A Lover's Dream

My insomniac mind yearns for another realm
Where I can hold my golden sapphire in my arms,
Where an ocean can be traversed in an instant,
Where my heart will feel complete.
My aching head lacks a crown,
Without the queen that answers its sighs,
Without the lullaby of her breath,
Without the smooth caress of her skin.

Until finally my eyes tumble and fall,
Onto the taste of your strawberry lips,
Onto the melody of your tender smile
Into a loving embrace,

I dream of my love...

Sometimes

Sometime I wish I had him back,
To hold him once again,
And tell him that I'm sorry,
And still I feel the same,
Sometimes I even understand,
The reasons we're apart,
And I know that I can keep him,
Deep inside my heart,
Sometimes my heart aches for him,
And through the night I cry,
Without him here to hold me,
I feel like I might die,
Sometimes I feel I hate him,
For this hurt I'm going through,
Five years on, still wanting,
What more do I have to do?,
Sometimes I get desperate,
I tried to heal my heart,
Still trying to screw my way over him,
Wishing we were not apart,
Sometimes I think I hear him,
Calling out my name,
And deep inside I know the truth,
He still feels the same,
Sometimes... well thats something,
For one day us to find,
And I know that he thinks sometimes,
About what he left behind.

MI

I try to comprehend
Locate the break
And
Make the mend

Watch the spark Illuminate
See the thought re-numerate
Help the mind to concentrate
Feel the wave concave

Focus on the
Deepest channel
Let zest taint
The faded flannel

Watch the sparkling
Image gleam
Divert the stream
Release the dream

And make believe
Come true.

Faith

When you walk follow the light
Walk straight and strong,
To your left and to your right there may be dark
But i am in front and behind you,

When you walk you may stumble
But then my hands will be upon you to lift you,
The light may begin to go dark
but my voice will guide you,

When you walk you may fear
But then i will be with you to calm you,
If you begin to shed a tear
I will lift out my arms to you to hold you and comfort you,

When you walk in pain
Then my healing voice will assure you,
And if you are ever in doubt be assured,
I will always love you until the end of time,
