Fay Walker
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of June 2004 Online
Competition
I live
in the mist of the
everlasting mountains near
Salt Lake City, Utah. I am
a world traveler thanks to
the U. S. Navy and the
Utah Air National Guard. I
met my wife, Nannette,
while serving on the USS
Los Alamos at the American
submarine base in Holy
Loch Scotland. I was
stationed there for just
over two years. The base
is no longer there now as
Scotland has its own
submarine base. We have
been married for thirty
years and have two
sons. This year we are
going back to Scotland for
another visit.
I have
only been writing poetry
for a short time. The
Night Falls Is my first
poem. It must be beginner's
luck to have your first
poem win a monthly
competition. For that I am
most appreciative. I will
continue to write poetry
as it is an enjoyable
pastime for me. It also
seems to come quite
naturally for me. Perhaps
it is because I was born
on the same day as Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow.
Clouds
upon the Mountains
When
the clouds caress the
mountains
It is a sight to see
The mist is in the valley
the frost is on the tree
The image is ever changing
as the clouds move to and
fro
The sunshine peers between
them
the shadows move below
The colors of the sunset
really sets things off
As if a fire were blazing
with smoke floating aloft
I love to see the
mountains
in their majesty
Crowned with clouds of
glory
its spectacular to me
The clouds are as soft as
cotton
the mountains rugged,
dark, and tall
A little piece of heaven
which beckons to us all
