Alison Bell

My name is Alison Bell I live in jarrow tyne and wear, I first started writing poetry ten years ago and had my first poem published by arrival press. The following year I had another two published and the year after that another published. I was busy raising four children and didn't have time to write but since turning the dreaded  40! last year I started writing again and just this past year I have heard from forward press that the two poems I wrote are about to be published one in November and one in December.

The first poem that I have featured is called man of the north I wrote this with my dad in mind the publishing company wanted poems to be wrote about people from different parts of the country, I know my dad would be very proud  he may not be here now but a bit of him lives on in print, the second poem is mother dear mother this is probably one of my favorites it applies to my mother your mother infact every ones mother who reads it! my third poem to be published is with it this poem makes me laugh as it really takes me back to the 1990's juppie era and is so true to life, I struggled a bit with my fourth I had been asked to submit some work about the weather and wrote rain  sun snow or blow this poem is about our main topic of conversation the weather and I was quite pleased with it when finished and after a eight year break I have tooth fairy Chelsea bell wrote in honor of my seven year old daughter for a children's book coming out in November something I hope Chelsea will appreciate more when she is older and my final poem to date is Scott wrote for my eldest son Scott who will be twenty one soon a lovely keepsake for his birthday my final poem is something I have not long wrote called wishes which I am hoping to see in print next. I just have to write a poem now for my husband ,he so wishes!! and my other sons Lee fourteen and Nathan ten but they keep telling me not to bother, the cheek I say!!!!!!!

writing is a great way of letting off steam and takes you to another world, never be afraid to let your self go when writing as it shows when you write straight from the heart

there is no greater sight for a writer than  to see there work in print, but you must be very patient when submitting work as it is very time taking from firstly submitting your work to hopefully seeing it in print is a very lengthy process but very rewarding . I hope you enjoy reading my poems as much as I did writing them!!!!

MAN OF THE NORTH

There was a Man who I did know
Was a Geordie from head to toe
Born in Shields a Sand dancer they say
Known by all in such a big way
Well respected true and kind
Proud of his roots proud of the Tyne
A few pints of Ale and he'd tell such a tale
From a big family thirteen in all
He'd tell how they'd cuddle the cat in turn to keep warm
Clogs on his feet when times were hard
And of his jobs when he worked in the yards
He spoke his mind wouldn't let any one bad mouth the north
Proud to be a geordie not afraid to come forth
The stories he'd tell you'd sit in a trance
Not bat an eye but the day did come when he did die
The tears i shed i couldn't believe he was dead
Time is a healer but ill never forget
That man of the north he was my dad
He now has five grandkids he would be so proud
His blood running through them i say out loud
Man of the north the one they called Mac
Man of the north we wish you'd come back.

MOTHER DEAR MOTHER

Just what is a Mothers role what talents does she bare?
A mother is a gifted woman unique but not rare
From the day that you are born until the day that she dies
You'll always be her pride and joy that twinkle from her eye
She will worry endlessly over-cautious and true
Wary of any one who comes to close to you
Your first day at school she waves you goodbye
A lump in her throat she breaks down and cries
In her life time she'll shed tears to fill a stream
There tears of pride for Mothers dream
She will guide you teach you all that she knows
Dreading the day when she must let go
But its hard for her to watch you when off you do roam
Her famous last words this is always your home
She'll be there for you always when time are bad
Because in Mothers eyes you're the best she's ever had
Mother will die for you have your pain worries big or small
Because after all that's said and done you are her one and all
There are times we take her for granted not really meaning to
You can pick and chose your friends but Mother she chose you
Spare a thought for Mother let her know you care
As one day you'll turn around and Mother wont be there.

WITH IT

The most infuriating sight for me
Is a keep fit fanatic posing for all to see
You can spot him a mile off out in the street
Designer shorts neat trainers on his feet
Luminous t shirt specks on his nose
Strutting past swiftly upon his toes
Posing a bum bag wearing a cap
Carries on moving keeps looking back
Centre of attention in his circle of friends
Once was a yuppie  keeps up with trends
He's a member of the squash club always at the gym
Always on the go never keeps still
Lives on organic vegetables pulses wheat and rye
Always on the toilet never knows why
Never drinks alcohol wouldn't touch a fag
Cupboards stacked with vitamin pills and keep fit mags
Doesn't use his car now swapped it for a bike
Likes to go out peddling in the middle of the night
Always giving lectures laughs and smirks at all
But the day will come when big apples fall
For inside this fitness fanatic i feel
Is a man who for shame sake just cannot reveal
He's sick of being hungry exhausted and broke
Its costing him a fortune this lifestyle he chose
he's waiting for a new phase a fad or a trend
He's not trying to be fit
Just being with it.

RAIN SUN SNOW AND BLOW

Feeling nervous don't know what to say
The words that come out "hey nice day"
Standing at the bus stop waiting in a queue
You're looking at him he's looking at you
Meeting people for the first time
See a stranger we say it every time
"Isn't it lovely, by its cold I can feel the wind must be getting old
My did it pour last night heavens opened up looks like a thunder storm clouds they look rough"
Its the topic of conversation we use it every day
When were in a hurry rushing on our way
See a new neighbour haven't time to stop
"Beautiful weather by its hot"
Stops us feeling ignorant when we haven't got the time
Its better than a wave or nod
And doesn't cost cost a dime
Generations will come and they will go
But we'll always be talking of rain and snow
It doesn't go out of fashion like phases and trends
It doesn't cause arguments just makes us new friends.

TOOTH FAIRY

There is a story I must tell
About a tooth fairy named Chelsea Bell
With long blonde hair and eyes so blue
When you loose a tooth she will come to you
Late at night when its dark and still
She flies through the window and waits until
All the children are fast asleep
And under the pillow she does peep
She pops the tooth into her sack
And leaves a coin putting the pillows back
Quiet and gentle you don't hear a thing
As Chelsea flies and flaps her wings
She flies off into a magical land
Where she turns your teeth into pearly white sand
So remember the next time you lose a tooth
A visit you will get
I know who from can you guess?
Yes the tooth fairy Chelsea Bell
And this story you to can tell

SCOTT

Oh sweet child of mine how you have grown
You make me feel my age now your twenty one years old
From a baby to a boy, now to a man
Your first smile, first steps, remember them all i can
The crazes, the phases, the styles of your hair
The fashions the trends you were always there
Every thing you do you give one hundred per cent
And all who meet like you, you are a pure gent
You're honest, trustworthy with a heart of gold
These qualities from your Dad I'm always told
Your temper, my dear I'm afraid its from me
Control it use it wisely don't let it run free
You have a quality which is yours and quite unique
You always think of others but praise you never seek
We are so proud in all that you do
She's a lucky girl who ends up with you
Keep this poem until your old and grey
As memories my son, don't go away
Show it to your grandkids it will make them smile
You'll remember the good times for a long while
My job as a Mother will never be done
As I am your Mother and you are my son
So go forth dear son the world at your feet
The world is your oyster to conquer complete
Remember one thing in all that I say
Always be your self along life's way
Mistakes will be made some things you'll do wrong
But life is a challenge a learning one
A poem I had to send as when all's said and done
Items are worthless compared to wise words from Mum.

WISHES

If I had a wish oh what would it be
A big win on the lottery maybe
I could wish for hot weather all the year around
To banish the rain no were to be found
Or maybe cure illnesses and live forever
Have world peace were wars are never
A world that is equal were every ones the same
Make killing not happen make wild Animals tame
I could wish for loved ones up in the sky
Could come back to earth and never die
Or I could use that wish just for me
To be the most beautiful intelligent person
How shallow of me
Or may be give the wish to the lady on Tv
Who longs for a child and has been told it can never be
My wish could turn in to a thousand as I could wish for more
And wish to wish for ever but I'm sure id get bored
So you see I don't believe in wishes they never come true
Can you imagine the world if we had them me and you
The world would be a shambles can you imagine life
No rules no morals just greed not right
So just be a dreamer make dreams come true
Because if you work hard enough
They will sure come to you
Don't accept life in front of you just slapped on a plate
Make it your own keep dreaming for all our sakes.
