David Lin

My name is David Lin. I am a twenty-two year old Taiwanese. Chinese is my mother tongue, while English is my poetic language. It has been five years ever since I drafted my first poem. Writing poetry is a major part of my lone hours. Hope you like the poems.

Love Song

Madness conjoined peace, stirred up no air
In my suffocating lungs
Where medicine failed
From magic and physics

Heart, my stomach ached through
With undeniable soaking eyes
Desiccated
By age
And incessant waiting

Suddenly, you came upon
When burning fire balls
Made the two one
And released power and light
Prior to quakes and floods

My soul quivered
For the first time
When the moon reflected
The star
Reflected
Your smile

TIME

Mark me well, O the irreversible Time
When all are lost
In the tiny box
Of Pandora
Silence will not
Nor singularity
Remains
Under the starry sky

My love, go but embrace the undeniable chain
Of Time
And make in me
Many a whispery silence
That dominates my future life
And eliminates my
Miserable past

Go, go, don't turn back
I give no Eurydicean command
For Love takes extreme compassion
And words at while
Serenity break

But come what come may
My call of fortune and waves
That delude most of the sunken land
And my pulse speed on

BULWARK

I kept myself in my migraine
And my migraine allured my anger
To dance

I kicked a dog
Jumping out of a bush
I gave a cold shoulder
To men
Beating round the bush

O, my head
With electrons
Flooding out of disorder
That smashed my station
Like a tsunami

My face was dim
Like late evening skies
And gradually begot
A Van Goughian night

TRAFFIC

I was lost
Once
In the traffic
That dominated
Not
The signal
That determined
Travellers
Back and forth

I slept over
And overslept
When your tension
Kept you up
All night
Though you denied
The fear
Of loss
Of me

Babe
You know well
Your direction
And destination
That quietly lay
Afar

Hush?

If I were a cab
Don't chase
But a monument
I be
Always
Here

DRAGONFLY

The earth electrified our beings
From a primal void
That makes the hazels protective symbols
To prevent our shades
From vicious sights

The wandering swarms
Neurotically redirect
Their destination
While the limited, pitiable sways
Make no difference
From a feet to a full latitude

The inextricable caste
Shared by the entire food web
Has no man footloose
But all for power

Here upon the misty lawn
The damp has my irritation grow
For the call of Fall
And the dragonflies hover
For the fear of dusk

INSIGHT

Infusion
Within an impulse
Swell

Action
Within a view
Diffuse

PLUTO

My orbit failed
From too much of hunger
Of reason
That metamorphosed
And rusted
In my soul

My soul has longed
For too little of freedom
Not for freedom
But my accumulating insecurity
Drowned
My hope

My hope has hovered
Once over the universe
With light
While all the stars
Have been put out
When they denied
My cope

TOTALITY

All the kings men assemble
And hail their Lord

The eulogy reaches
The vertex
Spreads
And dissolves
Slowly
In the wild

I am a pastoral poet
Whose songs imitate all sounds
Minds
And substances
While the greens
That vaporized in the seasonal mists
Conceal my true belief

Nature has all concluded
In the widening pre-eminence
When stars correspond with
Day and night
And reflect
On the dome
Glistering hopes

SIX DAYS

Who would have known
What the world be
Before before

Who would have called
The days after
To rest
Had time fall apart

My irritation nips my nerves
My insecurity
Shivers
As If a summer forest
Confronting a ghastly wind

Six days
Only in six days
Will you return
But the silence of my phone
Strengthened
My leisure

My toes
Had a ballet dancer
Possessed
To look for you
Here and there
In a month of absence

WIFE OF A FISHERMAN

The flows join together
At the other side of the mountain
And spread
The swamps
To travel from one branch
To another

The ocean absorbs
The rivers
Like a merry drinker
Whose cheeks are as red
As the dusky heaven

My love is a fisherman
Who embarks in daytime
And collects the tax
Nature does owe him

My love is a lover
Who embraces the world
And finds contentment
In the pond

HATRED

Hatred hovered over my brainpan
And created a wild riot
That smashed my entire body
To crush and scream
To the world
In lunatic languages

Stars fell on the oceans
Deluded
And swallowed the lands
Where animals began to immigrate
And earth trembled
Like the Creation

O, cease that pain
That unforeseen pain
Only ruins remain
After the crash
No promise heard

SILENCE

Silence smashed the sky
With millions of bombs
That cried out
Help! Help!
Then descended
In immeasurable ecstasy
When exotic lands
Confronted ravening tourists

Monuments erected
The land
Where billions of shadows
Used to pay their visits
Before Night has shown
The luxurious stars
To the dogs
That barked
And shouted
At the moon

O, sanity did fail my nerves
When dollars were too expensive
And levity so cheap

DUSK IN THE CLOUDS

Monsoon lingered my cosmos
My senses in the clouds
Began to share
The rain

Light
Descended carefully
Thinkers hardly perceived

My shade darkened
The pagodas
My thoughts swirl
Over the radiance
The billows
Of clouds

TO HIS POETRY

Spray an inspiration on me
And make my life
One

Promotion at work
My station doesn't prove
While my contemplating canopy
Soothes

O, Cradle of different names
In a breeze
Should my eyes close

Then in the name of the unknown
I should
Live again

PEARL

Sparkling
Splendid
Orbits
Suddenly smashed
All together
And sprouted
A pearl

YOUR CYNISISM

Your cynicism accelerates
My words
To baptize
Your confused mind
Shrouded by smoky pipes
That dominate
Most part of your life

I¡¦d rather call upon
Your name
Again and again
When cardinality
Occasionally forget
Holiness
For violence

Softly, gently
With a light
That casts upon your dome
To give you
A choir

BASIS

Organic features
Solemnly
Enshrouded the air
With the aid
Of water

My imagined headache
Clicked my scalp
And sensed
A revolution
Underneath my bones

Nerves have transported
Functions
To all forth
And my philo
Thus grew

Solitude begot me
Friends
Of all sorts
And made words
And told tales

SANCTION

Dozens of realism flood my nerves
With crescent sorrow
That transforms wholeness
Into delusion

O, my painful survival
With inevitable tracks of silence
That hammers the world
And scatters the souls

Back to myself
My limbs wait for the call
Of redemption
To close a door
And open a window

Yet at the window
I see nothing but dusts and tombs
That horrify even the moon
And the stars
And the shadows are too dark
To recognize themselves

REASON

Reason chimed the brim of my core
My blood began to delude
Like ancient Nile
That fertilized the place
Under the Sol

My dreams chased Night
When the afterglow has visited
Another longitude
And my limbs fell
For illusions
Vaporized

O, Judicious strives
That marked ages
As tide
And man
As one travelled from one edge
Of the world
To another
I fought
For the remain
Of compassion

SEPARATION FROM HISTORY

Onlookers passed by
With an orbit
Against
A people
That was presumably
Hans

While the tongue
Long ceased
Was made for
A crude tune
From the hoarse
Of northern hearths

Legends
And ascendances
Conjoined and twisted
In a complex knot
Ancestry hushed
Upon the step
Of recurrence

Top

FROM THE BASE

From the base
I ascend
Penniless
Under a breeze
Hollow-hearted
Which tells tales
Of many a destiny

I am weary
Trembling
My voice dried
Up from many toil

Say no more
There's no friend
Ahead
Companions
Behind

Life is but a universe
Of symbols
Man invents machines
To thrill
His own silence
