Claire King

I started writing poems when I was about seven or eight for fun and I used to show them to my parents and teacher miss Newman who was always really supportive. I think that support has always inspired and stayed with me from that age, and I know she’d be proud of me now if she knew that I’m still writing. So, I’d like to say thanks to her for believing in me, and setting up a creative writing group at my junior school all those years ago.

Although my poems are quite simple, and they haven’t really grown much from when I wrote them as a child, that is how I’ve always liked them. I don’t like to add too many fancy words, I just want the reader to understand the poem by the end and not think what they hell was that all about?

I still see the world as a child does in some of the poems I’ve written and I do sometimes like to write from that viewpoint to give my previous self a voice. I can easily remember all the viewpoints I’ve had throughout my life and remember how I felt at the time, and now I would like to share my thoughts from the past as well as present feelings..

I’m 22 now, I have been through a lot in life so far, and I’m sure I’ll have many more life experiences that will enrich my future work that I look forward to expressing.

Don't Look Down at me

Why do you talk down to me?
I do understand,
I know more than u sometimes,
Don’t wanna hold your hand.
I know what you’re all saying,
I just cannot join in,
This does get very hard for me,
I don’t need people laughing.
Don’t throw me in the air like that,
I don’t find it fun,
Everything is done for me,
I just wanna run.
I get my pay back every morning,
I like to make a mess,
I throw bits around in boredom,
So I can laugh when you get stressed.
Why can’t I speak out loud just yet?
I still don’t have a voice,
But I have thoughts and dreams you know,
Its not my fault or choice.
I dunno what age I am right now,
I just know I cannot speak,
When I tell you all of this some day,
I know your gonna freak!
Don’t underestimate the young,
We know more than might think,
So don’t pull that stupid face at me,
And stop dressing me in pink!

A bumpy ride from side to side

How far I’ve come,
How far to go,
Up and down,
Fast and slow,
Life has been,
Pretty mean,
Don’t look back,
Think serene,
I get down,
Get back up,
Rollercoaster,
Sums it up,
Life’s not fair,
Try not to care,
But one day,
It will stop,
No more life,
I will drop,
Had enough,
Learnt my way,
Time to think,
Time to pay,
Don’t look back,
Go to the light,
Don’t worry,
You’ve won the fight,
I’ll be back,
Round again,
Try not to live my life the same.

Town v's City

I come from the city,
No time to get bored,
Now living in the country,
I feel ignored.
Too much time,
Hence why I’m writing,
Where’s all my friends?
It’s getting kinda frightening!
But,
I know myself well,
A little too much,
Have learnt a lot here,
So much such,
I’ve changed as person,
I never could have grown,
In the frantic city,
I never would have known,
All I do now,
I wouldn’t change that,
And who I’ve become,
So I don’t look back,
No I don’t look back,
It was only for the best,
Didn’t see it at the time,
But now I feel blessed.

Silent Voice

You are always there,
You show you care,
By my sides,
All the times I’ve cried,
You listen to me,
You’re a great friend,
And I know you’ll be there to the very end,
Because of course you have to you see,
For I am you, and you are me.
Yes ‘tis true,
I have helped you,
And wont forget all you’ve been through,
I’ll be there, day after day,
I’ll never hurt you, or run away,
Because of course, I can’t you see,
For I am you and you are me.
Are you sure? Is it true?
So am I me? or am I you?
Half of you, is half of me,
Together you and I make we,
Whatever you do, I do too,
Because I am the voice inside of you.
When you’re upset,
So am I,
But it’s ok for you to cry,
I’ll never leave
I’m strong forever,
That’s why we work so well together,
We make a good team you and I,
Let’s stay that way until we die.

Respect

I am just a tiny dot,
I am just a speck,
Who’s lived my life and lost the plot,
Who’s lived my life with much regret.
Most of you will never know,
Who I am and where I go,
Where I’ve been and what I’ve seen,
What I hate and what I dream.
When I die and turn to dust,
Or left to rot and burn in rust,
Kids will run above my grave,
Not care how badly they behave,
Gravestones flowers nicked and trashed,
If I’m burned my urn will smash,
No care for me in living life,
In death they’ll only twist the knife,
Parts of me will get cut out,
Take what you want without a doubt,
But when I’m lifeless in your hands,
Remember who I really am,
And so I’ll leave with one request,
Pay this dot your last respects!

What's There to miss?

I miss something,
But I don’t know what,
It feels like love,
But maybe not,
I want to be,
By the sea,
All alone,
Wild and free,

I want to go,
Where the world is slow,
And my tears would go unheard,
I want to go,
Where there’s no one I know,
Where I won’t understand a word.

I want to be,
Where I can be me,
In a world where no one natters!

I’m almost there,
I don’t have to care,
In my world where nothing matters.

The open English Sea

Taste the flavour of the sand beneath your feet,
Feel the cool breeze through your hair,
Hold on to the sensitive pain that hits your teeth,
Jump into the sea if you dare,

Lie back drift away,
Feel the warmth hit your skin,
But don’t forget watch out for the tide,
And when you’re at home in your bed almost asleep,
Listen to the crashing of the waves by your side,
Listen to the waves by your side.
