Doreen Hampshire

Hello, I am a 67 year grandma and great grand, and very family orientated. I write and read poetry because I love to do so. and I have only been writing poetry myself since the year 2000. I am self taught but I can write about any subject. Thank you all for reading some of my work.

My One Regret

It was so long ago, yet I still do remember
the last time I saw you, that cold day in December.
We were the perfect couple, we both said it felt good,
That is what we said, but we were so misunderstood.
I was told, you were too old, or that I was far too young,
Or we had nothing in common,
words just slipped from their tongues
So why did I listen, and leave you standing there,
I saw you waiting, but just ended our affair.
Yet I am so sorry, and I will never forget,
I watched as you left, and I am still upset.
I should never have listened, to what people said,
And if I had another chance, I'd go with my heart instead.

A quiet Place

It is a peaceful place I visit,
So I sit in the open air.
I close my eyes, my worries cease,
And the wind blows away my cares.
The rippling water is flowing by,
So I sit on the grass and dream.
If I want to escape the pressure of Life.
I know the perfect scene.

Sitting near the waters edge,
The warm breeze on my face.
All my problems disappear,
In this idyllic place.
Watching natures beauty unfold,
Is such a countless treasure,
sitting on the bankside,
Is such a simple pleasure.

The wind is blowing gently
As I sit here all alone.
All is silent, I hear no noise,
Apart from Natures' own.
I have a place where I can go,
Which is not too far away.
Just watching the ducks and swans,
And thinking about a brand new day.

Gods Earth

Our lovely blue sea
and changing sky.
Flowers that smell
And grow so high.
Rain we need
For weeds and nettles.
And of course sweet roses
Which keep dropping petals.
Beautiful gardens
For all to view.
A lonely butterfly
with it's lovely hue.
The lakes and moutains
Are great to see.
All of these views,
Come to you free.
Strong cold winds
In a cloudless sky
As graceful birds
Go flying by.
A new sunrise
Each and every day.
Such beauty around
For us all to survey.

I believe in the future

I believe in the future
that all children will be friends,
with Nations embracing
each other
so that all wars will end.

I believe in the future
all people will be the same.
With no-one too rich,
neither too poor,
that would be my aim.

I believe in the future,
for all good things on Earth.
That all crops will grow
and sun will shine,
instead of all the dearth.

I believe in the future
that we could all live as one.
Enjoying life with each other
so that everyone has fun.

I believe in the future
as my dreams help me along.
A world, at peace with each other
as fighting,
we all know is WRONG

I believe in GOD.

Unconditional Love

When my days are dark,
you are always there.
The bad times I have
you always share.
When I am confused.
you're there to help
And you never
leave me by myself.
With your love,
I can carry on.
When I am weak,
you are always strong.
If I need courage
I can depend on you.
If I get in a rage
You always help me through.
When I am selfish,
Your heart you still give,
and so you shall have mine
As long as we both shall live.

Reversible Love Poem

So happy am I.
Looking into your eyes.
Knowing you are close.
I stare at the stars.
As I smile at you
My heart starts to pound,
We stand so close.
As you hold my hand.

The sky is so bright.
We are here alone.
Until early light
Like statues of stone.
Both you and me.
United as one.
Only each other we see.
As we turn to go home.
