Roope
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of December 2005 Online
Competition
Words
have always held magical
qualities for me from as
far back as I can
remember.
They
are like artists paints
which we put down in some
kind of order upon a blank
canvass to hang on the
wall.

Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of October 2005 Online
Competition
I’ve
always
loved
writing
and the
way so
much
atmosphere
can be
expressed
with just
a few well
chosen
words.
However, I
have to
confess
that while
I love
reading
poetry it
is not
something
I paid
much
attention
to writing
until
fairly
recently.

1st Prize Winner of
£3,000
I
was born in
Yeovil,
Somerset,

interest in
poetry was
encouraged
by a teacher

sent one of
my poems to
Young
Elizabethan
and then
presented
me, at the
age of
eleven, with
the magazine
containing
my first
published
poem and a
ten-shilling
note from
the
publisher.

Competition
Ben
Hamilton, I
was born and
bred in
Stone-in-Oxney
in 1958 (A
man of
Kent),
although
temporarily
exiled to
Hastings.
I have toyed
with poetry
on and off
since
leaving
school but
have
regarded
myself as
neither
readable nor
prolific.

Sam
Kelly
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of August 2005 Online
Competition
Sam
Kelly, my
pen name, is
an
indication
of how I see
my poetry
and how I
relate to
it. Using a
different
name makes
my writing a
performance,
like an
actor
assuming a
stage
persona, and
it helps me
empathise
with the
people that
I imagine
myself to
be.

Charles R
Wyvill
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of April 2005 Online
Competition
I am a 25 year old guy, originally from North Uist in the Western Isles. Presently I reside in Perth with my girlfriend Ashlee and our 2 rabbits.
My first attempts at creativity involved learning the basics on the drums and guitar when I was 16 and writing some very rudimentary lyrics.

Samantha
Walsh
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of March 2005 Online
Competition
I'm a 39 year old mum to three wonderful daughters and live in the West Yorkshire region.
I used to write poetry many years ago in my school days but only recently began writing again.
Most of my work is based upon the moods and feelings I have felt over the last couple of years.

Karen Smith
Winner
of our Top 5 Poets of February 2005 Online
Competition
As a child I enjoyed reading poetry but didn’t really turn my hand to writing until recently. For the past six years I have worked as a teaching assistant and during this time I have been amazed at the impact that poetry can have on children’s learning.
